Informational Meetings and the role of Cultural Mediators Print

As specified in the goals of this project, the Migration Information Centre serves as an umbrella organization for the certain activities of the migrant's communities in various regions of Slovakia, mainly the so-called Informational Meetings, which are being organized by the delegated Cultural Mediators of IOM MIC. These meetings will deal with the topics closely related to the integration of the migrants into the Slovak society and labour market.

Cultural Mediators of MIC IOM

The cultural Mediators, co-operating with the MIC IOM closely work with the ethnic and cultural foreign/migrant communities in the regions and try to establish contact with more closed communities, which have difficulties to gain access to the information and integration services.

The other task of the cultural mediators includes organizing the informational meetings for the migrants, which support their community life, inter-cultural communication and the integration of the migrant into the society and labour market. Therefore, the said cultural mediators should speak the language of that community and know its cultural and social customs. They should also be aware of the problems of these migrant communities in Slovakia and know about the possible solutions to these problems. Their knowledge in these matters can be based on a work, family or other relationship.

Informational Meetings of the MIC

The main goal of the Informational Meetings organized for the members of the migrant communities in Slovakia is to mediate the information necessary for the improvement of their integration into the local labour market and society in general. These meetings are organized by the MIC's Cultural Mediators and can be in a form of workshops, seminars, cultural or sports events, but must always include the above-mentioned information exchange. The IOM Migration Information Centre will financially support such meeting after the successful review of the application.
