| Reporting the Residence and Other Important Changes |
Foreign nationals are required to report the place of their residence in Slovakia at the police station according to their place of residence. It is a special obligation, which is not connected to the residence permit, and generally it needs to be fulfilled directly after the arrival to Slovakia.
It is important that the foreigners in person notify the authorities of their place of residence in Slovakia. This applies if the foreign national has private accommodation. If he is staying at a hotel, hostel, dormitory etc., the person in charge of the accommodation will report the foreign national's residence, and the foreign national is not required to report. EU/EEA citizens and their relatives are obliged to report the residence within 10 working days from entering the Slovak territory and citizens of all other countries within 3 working days. A foreign national that has a residence permit in Slovakia must also report the beginning of his residence to the police. In addition, this person must inform the police (at the locally competent bureau according to the place of the residence) if he stays outside the territory of Slovakia for more than 180 days. All other categories of foreign nationals (with visa or without them) must report the beginning of their residence in Slovakia, the place where they are staying and the intended period of stay. This information is entered into the official form of “Residence Announcement", available here or here. The foreign national is also obliged to inform the police of any important changes of personal data in his/her travel document within 3 working days from the day such a change occurred. |
