Application for a work permit and supporting documents Print
You may apply for the work permit yourself (in person or via mail) or you can empower your future employer to apply on your behalf.
If you want to apply for a work permit, you have to fill in the official application form in two copies and enclose all necessary documents (in one copy). The official application form is available for download here.

The application must contain:

  • name, surname, date of birth
  • address in the state of the permanent residence and contact address for the delivery of correspondence
  • number of your travel document (passport) and the name of the authority which issued it
  • name, address, identification number of the employer and type of its economic activity
  • type of work, place of work and the period of employment
  • confirmation - the employer´s promise that he will employ the applicant, confirmed by the employer´s stamp and signature. It is thus necessary to find a job before submitting the application. The employer will state reasons why this particular candidate is the most suitable for the position.

Please note that the above-mentioned confirmation of the employer is not only a formal matter. You may only work for the employer who has provided this confirmation.

Necessary enclosures:

The application for a work permit must contain several separate documents, which are listed below.
  1. Copy of the passport
  2. Proof of education/qualification - a diploma or a certificate
  3. If you have been sent to work in Slovakia by your employer, a verified copy of a business agreement or a copy of a document about your transfer within the enterprise
  4. If you are submitting the application through your future employer or a different person, it is necessary to enclose a written authorization, authenticated by a Slovak public notary

  5. The Labour Office may also require other documents, such as:
  6. Certificate proving that the future employer fulfils his/her tax liabilities
  7. Other documents according to any bilateral international agreements
  8. Extract from the business registry of the future employer (in order to verify the existence of this legal entity).

If you submit the application in person or by mail, it is necessary that your future employer indicates on the application form that he will employ you.
